The Scriptorium
BENEDICER DIGNERIS, DOMINE HOC
SCRIPTORIUM FAMULORUM TUORUM, UT QUID SCRIPTUM FUERIT, SENSU CAPIANT
OPERPEFICIANT *
Welcome to the
Scriptorium. From the fall of Rome to the Renaissance, the monasteries of
Western Europe were virtually the sole keepers of all written works in Europe.
You could call the monks the original 'knowledge workers'. A scriptorium was
usually a large room set apart in a monastery for the use of the scribes or
copyists of the community. When there was no special room, separate little cells
or studies called "carrels" were usually made in the cloister, each scribe
having a window and desk to himself (which sounds a lot like a cubicle).
To store the written works of Day Is Done Partners Inc. this 'room' has been
set-aside in our own 'community'. Feel free to read and comment of the works
enclosed. Some are intentionally satirical, often a reflection of the type of
work we are doing (you have to deal with stress somehow). Click on the titles
below to go directly to an article. Relax and enjoy and please take the time to
respond to anything here at
